Trail Overview

When traveling to White Pockets, this is a nice side trip either going or returning. There are some great views and a very nice red rock formation offset on the white sand that is fun to explore and do some climbing. It's a great place to get some of the boundless energy out of young travelers while enjoying the views of the surrounding area. The trail is very sandy, so make sure your vehicle is equipped for deep sand. There are no crazy areas, so it is also a great place for the less experienced drivers to get a little wheel time.

Difficulty

The trail is very sandy. During periods of low precipitation and high use, the sand can become very fluffy, and it's difficult to find a bottom if your tires are not properly deflated. There are some small rock ledges but they should be navigable by most properly equipped vehicles. This is not an AWD-friendly trail. The mesa is subject to snow in the winter, so if there has been recent precipitation you may want to check before going to the area. The trails are traveled by ranchers in the area with their trucks and trailers, so most are not excessively rough. Some areas of deep, soft sand can be challenging. Please stay on the trails as this is not an open riding area.

Narrow trail, mixed rocky, sand and rock outcrops to navigate. There were a couple of “cattle gates” of barbed wire construction. Be careful handling them. They do not open and close very easily. Have fun!
