Trail Overview

This is a fun 6-mile trail through Utah State Trust Land near Big Water, Utah. It's full of sandy corners, dips through sandy washes, small rock ledges, and even goes past the ruins of an old cowboy cabin. The trail is mostly hard-packed dirt and sand but also has lots of slab rock surfaces and sometimes loose rock in the trail. It curves through the pinyon pine trees, with a couple of sharper turns that come up quickly. It has really nice views of the pink cliffs that surround you. This trail has several small climbs as it goes up and down the hilly terrain, and lots of wash crossings you have to watch out for that come up quickly and suddenly dip down. There is a one-foot rock ledge coming out of one of the wash crossings. You'll pass a cow trough at the powerlines and go over some rougher slab rock. Follow along the powerlines and go through a fence. It's mostly sand but also has sporadic slabs of rock. The trail parallels elevated above a wash, crosses the wash, and then climbs up to the next mesa. Here there are ruins of an old cowboy cabin you can walk up to. When the trail doubles back and starts heading east, it starts to go through a curvy sandy wash surrounded by scenic rock walls, with deeper sand in the corners. It's a bit like a slot canyon for a moment, before climbing out to be elevated above the canyon again looking down into it. The west end of the trail connects back to Judd Hollow Road.

Difficulty

This is a 3 difficulty due to a couple of small ledges that are up to a foot tall, lots of wash crossings that would need high clearance, and some deeper sand.

Loose sand in spots. The trail became difficult to follow after a few miles. Lots of livestock in the area.

Nice trail with some washboard and some curious cattle. From the junction of 6135 to the junction with 6115 there are a few places where some rock crawling is necessary but nothing too crazy.
