Trail Overview

Expect steep climbs, ridges, valleys, tight brush and beautiful views on this route in the Cameo Cliffs Area (i.e. Hook & Ladder Area). ATVs are most common, but the trail is okay for experienced UTV and Jeep drivers. ATVs and UTVs will have the option to extend the length of their ride. Jax Trax is now part of the Easter Jeep Safari.

Difficulty

Difficult. Steep and ledgy in several places. El Diablo is extremely steep going up and down, but otherwise has no obstacles. Narrow in places with tight, scratchy brush. Aggressive, stock, high-clearance 4x4 SUVs can do it with experienced driver, but expect pinstriping or even a scratch or two.

History

The Red Rock 4-Wheelers chose the name of this trail to honor the late Jack Bickers, former member, pioneer backcountry explorer and author of numerous Moab maps and guidebooks. FunTreks has many of his books (now out of print).

Great trail, it had everything, steep climbs, steep down climbs, a little snow here and there, a lot of great obstacles. never a dull moment but totally doable for a decent rig. Really great scenery the whole trail. Cool little offshoot trails along the way as well. A pretty rough trail for the most part. El Diablo obstacle was very cool as well. I don't know who this Jax person is, but they laid some pretty cool Trax.

This is a fun trail and offers steep climbs, large shelf’s and also some great scenery. I’d say it’s more of a 6 anymore as some of the obstacles are getting pretty deteriorated. Make sure to Watch your gps and what trail markings are left as the road can be tricky to stay on. Towards the end you have the option to hit El Diablo and the dome. Now that was a blast and there is a by pass that’s pretty fun if you don’t want to do it. Our Jeeps on 37s with lockers and did fine. Overall this was a great trail and harder than we thought it would be but with it. It took us about 5 hours in a large group with stops for Potty breaks and lunch.

Fun run, not over the top crazy but there’s definitely a several spots that are interesting. 37s and lockers I had no issues but if you’re running 35s you may be testing the skid plates on several shelf steps up and down. No cell service.

The guided version bypasses the most significant obstacle of the trail - El Diablo! At about 11.1 miles, the actual trail goes straight east and climbs a two-step 30%-ish incline (El Diablo). The guided version takes the bypass around El Diablo and its subsequent descent. I have the track recording (and video), if needed. After the first 3 miles of pasture, this trail has a little bit of everything in the Moab area - dirt, sand, loose rock, and slick rock. It's not the hardest of most technical trail, but it's a perfect warm up and has amazing views of the La Sal Mountains to the north, the Abajo Mountains to the south, and the Henry Mountains to the west.
