Trail Overview

This 8-mile-long out-and-back trail branches off Soapstone Pass and follows the steep hillside East before the terrain levels out, then turns south towards Iron Mine Lake. This trail is an easy trail as it is a well-maintained road that has plenty of places to pass other vehicles in the narrow sections, with the only obstacles being a few shallow creek crossings and one section that has some larger ruts dug into the trail. This trail is scenic as it travels along the hillside with views down into the canyon through the trees before it turns towards the lake, also passing by a small pond along the way to the lake. There is a small parking area at the lake as well as one dispersed camp spot just past the parking lot. This trail is open to all vehicles and has no set closure date, but will be inaccessible due to snow during the winter and spring months.

A little rough. rain and snow weekend before so a couple deep puddles remained. Slow and go and enjoy the scenery.

Lots of water and run off from recent snow pack but it was passable in our Jeep. We made it to the top the trail.
