Haystack - FS 50279

This short out-and-back trail branches west from Skyline Drive and follows the ridge to a small overlook and campsite. This trail has deep ruts throughout that can hold water and mud during periods of wet weather, as well as slow vehicles down as they traverse the trail. This trail is scenic as it follows along the ridge, giving views of the surrounding hills throughout, with the trail ending at a good viewpoint looking down the canyon and a small campsite just above the viewpoint. This trail is open to all vehicles and is closed seasonally from July 1st through December 31st, but is usually rendered impassable due to deep snow starting in November and could be impassable through some or most of July due to deep snow drifts.
