Trail Overview

This trail is a cut-off a few miles from Hanksville to Goblin Valley and Wild Horse or vice versa with this fun short dirt road. You can enter from Goblin Valley Road or State Route 24. The trail has cattle gates on both sides that you are responsible for opening and closing. On the east side of the trail, you'll find small sandy dunes broken up by dirt. The west side of the trail is a rocky section that anything from a dirt bike to high clearance 4x4 should have little problems with. Make sure to check out Molly's Castle while you're there. Signs are posted saying no camping along this trail.

Difficulty

There are some sand dunes that could cause someone while limited experience and improper vehicles to get stuck. The rocky section should be taken slow and moderate ground clearance is necessary.

We would rate this a little higher than a 3. It’s probably more of a moderate 4 due to a few technical shelf sections and drop offs. We did this in our Unimog which didn’t have any issues in any sections but a vehicle with less clearance would have to pick lines in places. Overall really beautiful and fun!

A bit more technical in some sections than expected for an easy rated trail. Sandy dirt road majority was fine, some small sand dunes crossing trail were ok with momentum, but some steep and deep drop sections could cause damage particularly the rock ledges required spotting for the best line. Got through unscathed but did not take this route for the return trip, a bit more intense than I was looking for in my stock vehicle without lift or rock rails. I do have skid plates underneath which I recommend for this trail’s rock ledges and all-terrain tires for the sand sections. High clearance, all-terrain tires, and 4x4 recommended. Large front/rear overhangs may scrape without adequate clearance.

Fun and scenic alternate route to Goblin Valley. Easy trail for a Jeep Wrangler. Used 4Hi through the entire trail. From the highway, starts out with sand and then after Molly's it gets a little rockier with short ledges. Some of the rockier sections have scrape marks from lower clearance vehicles so selecting lines are more important for those drivers. A few spots could be more difficult when muddier.

Had to get out a few times to pick the best line. Outback Wilderness did not have any problems.

We did this with our 4x4 Sprinter van. Would probably rate it closer to a 4 and put it at medium. Maybe that's just for Sprinters! Some rock climbing on the west end, some sandy hill climbs.

Great trail! Fun but not too difficult. The trail is mostly sand with some minor rock crawling along the way. There is one gate that is not locked.

Slightly muddy in some of the more technical parts due to rain the previous day. Lightly traveled. Not a lot of visitors this time of year.
