Trail Overview

FS 053 is a short out-and-back ATV trail in the Wasatch National Forest that leads to a small dispersed campsite. The trail is a spur off of ATV Trail FS 052, starting next to a couple of swampy ponds. It gains about 240 feet in elevation in 1 mile, riding through gradual terrain past meadows and a hillside full of blowdown. The terrain is a mix of flowy dirt sections and rockier terrain, where the trail is full of big loose rocks that can ping you around. Expect shallow ruts and a couple of tighter turns; however, the trail is very easy overall. The last section on the west end has nice views as you gain some elevation and can look out across the hillside. You may see sheep herders with horses and sheep dogs in the area.
