Trail Overview

This section is part of a much longer trail that runs from the Sanford area, on the north, to the south of Highway 12 about 20 miles. This section is one of the most scenic sections for the topography and colors of the embedded minerals. This is also a section of trail you do not want to be on if there has been, or the potential for, rain. The trail's clay surface makes passage extremely difficult and controlling your vehicle on the accents and descents is nearly impossible. Luckily, this is a desert environment so rain does not occur that often. The trail is a single track with numerous small washes.

Difficulty

This trail includes sharper curves, shallow water crossings, and rocky areas. While navigable by most off-road vehicles some of the corners can be a little tight for larger or longer vehicles. The warning in the trail descriptions should be heeded as this can turn into a very dangerous situation with moisture on the trail surface. If it is raining hard there may be no good option to get out until things calm down as there are numerous washes that can fill quickly.
