Trail Overview

This trail is an easy well maintained road that starts in Farmington and heads up the canyon to where it ends at the start of Francis Peak Road and Skyline Drive. This trail stays about 2 vehicles wide but some spots may require larger vehicles to back up in order to find a good place to pass and care should be taken as there are some sections of trail that drive along the edge of a cliff as well as blind corners. This trail is open from May 1st to October 31st but may be closed earlier or opened later due to snow.

Difficulty

This is an easy dirt road but is a little washed out and I would suggest having four wheel drive during wet or snowy conditions.

Trail is in decent shape, a few washboarded sections. Beautiful views and easy trail, saw several sedans. Lot of traffic - vehicle, foot, and bike, be cautious on blind turns

Gate was still closed. Signage in the parking lot indicated that it is expected to be opened on 01MAY26

Checked the gate on Farmington Canyon last night around 8:30 and it was closed and locked. I think it will be opening earlier this year sadly due to lack of snow, so I keep checking. Happy offroading!

Looking at local reports, it sounds like this is a seasonally closed gate , not just temporarily locked. Sounds like it reopens in spring.
