Trail Overview
Devil's Notch (FS 70090) is a nine-mile forest road running southwest to northeast just south of Strawberry Reservoir. On the north end, it connects to Stinking Springs on the southeast shore. The route offers wide views of the reservoir and surrounding mountains while winding through pine and aspen stands, along ridges, and across rocky shelves. The road surface varies from dirt and loose rock to sections with minor ruts. Trail widths range from single-vehicle wide to nearly three vehicles across in one stretch on the northeast side. This section is covered in deep potholes and ruts, some up to 18 inches, that span the entire road, creating a slow, technical challenge that can stop lower-clearance vehicles. The trail is open to all vehicles southwest of the intersection with Big Springs (FS 70109), and open to highway-legal vehicles northeast of that intersection. Dispersed camping is permitted 150 feet off the center line of the road, and cell service is generally limited. Livestock may be present, so watch for sheep or cattle on the road.
