Trail Overview
Dave's Hollow is an exploration of an old sheep herding area from the late 1800s. Approximately 5.6 miles from the start of the trail you will find Whiteman Spring. At this spring there are some old dug-out trees that were used as troughs to move water from the spring to an area that was useful for watering the sheep grazing in the area. These dug-out logs are over 120 years old and care must be taken around them as they are deteriorating very rapidly. You will also find a large pipe that was used to get water from the spring. This is a beautiful ride that is very easy and yet enjoyable with the surrounding area's beauty. At the end of the trail, you can travel south to Tropic Reservoir. As you are traveling keep your eyes open to the tops of the trees, especially to the right. If you're lucky you will find a large nest and during the right time of year it may be occupied by an Osprey family with young birds. Along this road, there is also a spring which is a great opportunity to fill those water bottles with spring water.
Difficulty
This is an easy trail that is at least one vehicle wide and, in many areas, two vehicles wide. The ride is very easy however, if it rains, this trail can get muddy very quickly. There is one hill just past the troughs that does take some attention, but when ridden, it was passable by any 4WD trail-worthy vehicle.
