Trail Overview

Closed from October to June. This is a great drive that takes you up and over the Oquirrh Mountains between Herriman and Tooele, Utah. This is a perfect place for an evening with great views. This area is particularly beautiful in the fall with many colors in the trees. You will also get a great birdseye view of one of the largest mines on earth. The Oquirrh Mountains are west of Salt Lake City and see far less traffic than the Wasatch Range across the valley. The drive can easily be done in any direction, and in most vehicles. There is a short side road to the top of West Mountain where you can look down and into the Kennecott Copper Mine.

Rough/Deteriorated
If going from East to West, the road is paved asphalt until the top. There are a few sharp, blind corners and the road is fairly narrow in certain sections. At the top, the road becomes dirt/gravel and the descent begins with some more sharp turns. There is a section with some water going underneath the trail so that’s cool. The descent takes you into Tooele after passing campgrounds for a few miles.
