Trail Overview

This 17.3 mile out and back box canyon trail features amazing Utah bluffs and rock formations and numerous water crossings. You will turn left before crossing the water that leads to Hotel Rock. There is a sign that shows Arch Canyon entrance. Depending on how much rainfall the area has received, you could encounter just a few very shallow water crossings or multiple water crossings, up to 3 feet deep. Be sure to look into conditions before leaving. There are a couple cliff dwellings you can see in the distance in the cliffs along the way. The trail ends at a wooded campground with an amazing view.If you wish to camp in the area, there is a big open camping area just on the other side of the highway 95.

2024 Jeep JLU Rubicon w/Xtreme Recon. What an epic trail to drive. Tight, curvy, incline, decline, scenic. It wasn’t a technical trail, but I thought it was a lot of fun to drive. You pass over and through the wash several times all throughout the length of the trail, you’ll definitely want to pay attention to the weather before taking this on. Any water was minimal and frozen for this trip. Approach and departure angles will be tested and I wouldn’t think a 1/2 ton truck or larger would make it as there were a couple soots with trees and rocks my Jeep just squeezed though. A 2nd gen, extended cab Tacoma made it through ok. You will most definitely receive pin striping. There is a picnic table at the end of the trail as well as some walking trails.

Torrential rain fell just a few days ago and the Comb Wash became a 6 foot deep flood. We attempted to drive Arch Canyon and made it only a short distance before we found a Quad stuck in the mud. It took two hours and a couple UTVs to get him out. There was no way my truck was making it past the first bend. Trail will require work on all of the crossings to become passible for vehicles again.

The ATVs and Jeeps with big tires were having a heyday on this trail over a busy Memorial Day weekend. Our 245-75-17 tires weren’t cutting it. We turned back before we even started as the very beginning of the trail featured a massive mud hole that would have been our undoing.

This is not a long wheelbase friendly trail. Fine in a short wheelbase jeep but we abandoned the trail after a half mile in our longbed Tacoma. Even a short bed would have trouble. Lots of very tight turns, overgrown with cottonwoods, and lots of erosion and sketchy wash outs of the trail. Leave this for 2dr jeeps and SXS in my opinion.

If you have a full size truck like me, walk. very tight turns in-between trees. would be much easier in a smaller rig.
