Trail Overview

This scenic 50.6-mile loop is perfect for riders of fifty-inch SxSs and off-road motorcycles looking for a breathtaking and expansive mountain journey through the Manti-La Sal National Forest. Starting near Ephraim, the route climbs up Ephraim Canyon on a well-maintained dirt and gravel road, ascending to the famous Skyline Drive at over 10,000 feet. Along this high-elevation ridge, travelers are treated to sweeping panoramic views of the valleys below before transitioning to a narrower, fifty-inch trail. This segment winds its way down the eastern slopes of the mountain range, offering a fun descent that leads directly to the shores of Joe's Valley Reservoir. The lower-elevation sections around the reservoir provide great spots for a lunch break or quick rest before beginning the return leg. From Joe's Valley Reservoir, the adventure continues as another fifty-inch trail climbs back up the rugged eastern face of the mountain, testing vehicles with steep grades and loose dirt surfaces before reconnecting with Skyline Drive. Four-wheel-drive capability is recommended to manage the elevation changes, which feature a cumulative gain of over 8,600 feet and peak at an altitude of 10,925 feet. After navigating the high ridgeline once more, the loop descends back down Ephraim Canyon to the starting point. Due to its extreme high-altitude terrain, this route is best ridden from mid-summer through early autumn when the winter snows have cleared from the high passes. Offroaders should plan for changing weather conditions, carry plenty of fuel, and verify local vehicle width restrictions to ensure a safe and memorable journey.
