Trail Overview
Watchtower is a fun trail that leads up to an elevated overlook with views of the surrounding coastal trail system and the ship channel. The route starts out weaving through brushy terrain before gradually climbing to a higher point, giving it a nice elevation change compared to the otherwise flat area. The east entrance brings you in through tighter sections with uneven ground before opening up near the top, where you can stop and take in the views across the water and surrounding trails.
Difficulty
On this trail, you’ll find a dirt and mud surface with sections of sand and uneven terrain. The east entrance includes off-camber sections that can become slick and more difficult in muddy conditions, often requiring a 4x4 to maintain traction and control. Ruts and soft spots may develop, especially after rain. While the climb itself is short, the combination of off-camber terrain and mud can make certain sections more challenging. Overall, this trail is moderate and can require a 4x4 depending on conditions.
