Trail Overview

Pine Canyon Road is an out-and-back route accessing the Pine Canyon Trail in Big Bend National Park. Characteristics include loose and chunky rock, rolling hills, blind corners and dry bed water crossings. There are five campsites available on this route. Sites 1&2 are combined, and more suitable for a larger group. Inclement weather can drastically change the nature of this trail. Please monitor weather forecasts while in use.

Beautiful trail, easily done in a 4x4 pickup truck. A few rough spots, but nothing crazy.

Slow and steady drive, I would air down with some larger rocks right in the drive path easy to pop a tire difficult spot to change to spare.

Pine Canyon is one of the only open trails at Big Bend National Park as of July 11, 2025 due to the storms over 4th of July. Accessed by Glen Springs Road, the rest of which is closed due to a 5’ cliff washout. This trail had small washouts but still very easy to traverse with any off-road tires and ground clearance.

A little rough but not too terrible. Some ruts and rough spots with a few areas you have to cross dry creek beds. Some people were in and out to get to the trailhead all the way back.
