Trail Overview
Loose Rock is one of the more difficult trails in the park and serves as the primary technical hill climb to the top of Wildcat Mountain. The first half of the trail begins off Park Road 2 and continues until it intersects with the trail known as Rocky. There is an approximate 250-foot overlap where the two trails share the same route before Loose Rock continues on its own. Once leaving Rocky and reaching the base of Loose Rock, drivers encounter the main obstacle section of the trail. Expect very tall, stair-stepped ledges combined with loose pebbles and small boulders that can shift and move under the vehicle. Rock stacking to improve the approach angle is common on this trail. The trail features a very steep elevation gain and is one-way only. Posted signage specifies that Loose Rock should only be run during daylight hours, as the overall difficulty and terrain make nighttime travel especially hazardous.
Difficulty
This advanced trail features very steep elevation gain, tall stair stepped ledges, and constantly shifting loose rock. Expect near vertical climbs, unstable footing, and limited traction. Vehicle damage is likely, and precise throttle control and careful line choice are required.
