Trail Overview

The 101 Loop Back takes a slightly tougher track through the southeastern corner of the park as it loops from the South Pens group camping area back to Merus 101. This short trail brings you to the top of a hill that provides an exceptional view of the Palo Duro Canyon system south of the park.

Difficulty

The trail crosses a sandy wash on Salt Fork Section 4 before turning up a shallow grade that connects to a steep rocky scramble up a rock-strewn hill.

The trail had a few technical sections, but the Gladiator on 35s handled everything with ease. The scenery was incredible, with some awesome views throughout the park. Definitely a fun trail and one I’d run again!
