Firescald is a moderately easy out-and-back dirt trail accessed from Viking Mountain Road that offers a more rugged forest driving experience. The route remains primarily single-lane with very few pull-off areas, so drivers should be prepared to encounter limited passing opportunities. The surface consists of uneven dirt and exposed rock, with washouts from rainfall creating additional variation throughout the trail. Fallen logs may occasionally obstruct portions of the route, particularly following storms, and overgrown vegetation narrows the trail corridor in several places. Along the route, Firescald intersects with Kennedy Cabin, where Firescald continues to the right. As the trail progresses, the uneven terrain and rocky surface may require the use of 4WD in certain areas, particularly after wet weather. The mapped trail ends at a designated turnaround, providing the last safe opportunity to reverse direction. Beyond this point, the trail becomes unmaintained with no practical turnaround locations and a very high likelihood of body damage from dense vegetation and deteriorating trail conditions. Drivers should use the turnaround and avoid continuing beyond the mapped endpoint.
