Trail Overview
Battle Axe Branch 1B is one of those sleeper trails that ends up being way more fun than it looks on the map. It's an out-and-back with just enough rock, ruts, and tight tree squeezes to keep you on your toes, but not so gnarly that you'll be wrenching by sunset. Rated around a 3 out of 5 for difficulty -- doable solo, better with a buddy, and more fun aired down. The real gem here is the scenery. Dense, mossy forest, soft filtered light, big boulders -- pretty sure Peter Jackson filmed a cut scene from Lord of the Rings back here and never told anyone. The trail branches into a few side spurs if you're feeling exploratory, with one or two that lead to ridge points and quiet pocket clearings that might hold a dispersed campsite if you scout hard enough. Not high-speed. Not high-traffic. Just a solid, immersive little adventure tucked away where the forest gets quiet. Pack in, pack out, leave no trace, and tread lightly.
