Trail Overview

This road is seasonally open during the fall and offers unmatched views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The first part of this route is very easy to drive and crosses countless bridges over small mountain streams, eventually concluding at a large open campsite along the river. Along the route there is only one obstacle for this section and it is a series of 3 concrete culverts with around a foot of vertical clearance needed. This area is great for wildlife viewing and fishing;however, with the added popularity of the area, it has become heavily traveled, so make sure to stay on the trail and watch your speed.

Difficulty

This is a well-maintained start to the trail and has no obstacles until a 12" exposed culvert about halfway down the trail. 4WD is handy but not required if you have decent tires.

This was an awesome chill trail ride. We went on a rainy/foggy day so the view was slightly blocked. However, there is a section of trail that rides along side Lake Jocassee which was super serine. For all those who want a little bit of muddy “proof” of their off road experience there is also a mud pit to the side of the trail where donuts can be performed.

This was a really nice ride. As reported before, one downed tree that blocked a lot of one spot but was easily able to get by in my Jeep. Beautiful, quiet, and peaceful.

There’s a fallen tree before the 2nd bridge (as of 10/2/25) Jeeps, Tacos and the like can squeeze by; might be impassible for large trucks such as F-250. Road gets a tad more technical after the 2nd bridge but still very do-able. I only ran the “green” part but it seems to be open beyond the creepy camp site if you wish to explore further. Enjoy!!
