Trail Overview

This is the 4x4 segment of Turkey Ridge Road or FSR 757 to Long Creek Falls. This is a technical route that leads down to Long Creek Falls and an overlook over the Chattoga River. After rains the trail gets very muddy and slippery due to the red clay base road. During the Fall and Winter months the leaves add to the already slippery road. I completed the trail in a Full Size Silverado 2500HD Z71 and took up the entire width of the trail so smaller rigs will have a much easier time through the narrow areas of the trail. Even if you are not planning to hike down to either the overlook or the falls it is a wonderful drive though the Blue Ridge Mountains. Camping is popular at the end of the route;it is popular during the weekends and only holds a few vehicles as it is just a large turn around.

Difficulty

Muddy trail most times of the year. 4x4 and high clearance required. During Fall and Winter months the leaves of the trail add another level of slippery surfaces to the trail.

Did the trail in a stock Subaru, I definitely needed to pick lines carefully to avoid damage. Lots of pinstriping but definitely possible in a crossover if you have good clearance and traction control.

Trail is currently obstructed with several large downed trees about ½ mile from end of trail. We hiked the rest of the way. Beautiful sites, but it will take alot of work and a chainsaw to open the trail back up.

my Xterra pictured is at the gravel turn around juat before the drop in. I did the whole thing in 2wd. there was a little bit of mud at the turn around, but overall it was very dry when we went. it's a typical primitive FSR, with a lot of ups and downs, a few low hanging branches, but not really anything super crazy. I did the whole thing in 2wd, and I didn't struggle at all. the hike at the end of the trail is the most difficult part, and even then, it's only the last 100 yards or so. there really isn't anywhere to turn around or pull off it you cross paths with someone coming the opposite direction, but it isn't too bad. I wouldn't take a stock Subaru down this trail simply due to clearance issues, but pretty much any midsize/full size body on frame SUV/pickup should have absolutely no problem in the summer.

Fun little trail. Nothing challenging as it was dry. Hardest part of the trail was hiking to find the falls.
