Trail Overview

This gravel road rolls across some of the Sumter National Forest's piedmont area; it includes side puddles, that can hold water for a long time, and a delightful creek crossing that can gain depth rapidly with heavy rainfall. The creek crossing has a hard bottom (cement) but has a visible hole on the up-creek side when the water is clear.

Difficulty

The road is well maintained most of the year, however, with heavy rainfall the creek crossing can become deep. Eighty-five percent of the time the road is safe to travel with any 4x4, however, the crossing can increase to several feet.

CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES. Every damn time there's heaps of garbage. None of us should be this dumb. The trail overall was fine. Had a great talk with an older gentleman named John who regularly has to clean up after locals and out of towners. We all can do better to keep these trails wonderful.

They must have fixed the creek crossing at some point because it’s concrete under the creek. After a solid week of rain and in the middle of a downpour, it was maybe 6” of water. I can see how it would’ve gotten very deep before they concreted the passage. There is, however, some broken concrete on the right side that has the potential of being a tire buster. The only “obstacle” on this road is some ruts under the railroad bridge. The bridge itself is an active railroad bridge and someone has been removing bolts, so I wouldn’t want to drive under while a train is passing over. This road, in my opinion is a 1 or 2 tops.

Very typical ride through Lil NC. Some areas have become completely dry while others have maintained their muddiness. No washouts.

All gravel road, with the exception of a little shortcut that cuts a corner, that you absolutely need 4x4 for. Otherwise my wife’s Honda civic could hand the gravel just fine.

Firsts time there and will be back for sure it was a beautiful spot to get away from everything as the night went on the woods came alive and you couldn’t hear anything beside the woods and the beautiful little waterfall it was so relaxing and peaceful

Going towards the water crossing there's potential for slippage. Recent rain has made it a little interesting. Going towards the north end going uphill there are a could of mud patches that could present issues if you don't know what you're doing. Would not recommend taking a car through this trail at the moment.

Easy, fun little trail. There are a few houses on this road but it is likely also a logging road. The only technical spot is the water crossing. It’s concrete on the bottom but possibly could get tricky with heavy rain. The ruts under the bridge are decently deep but did not require 4WD in a stock Sahara. There are a lot of muddy offshoots on this trail, would be fun but wouldn’t attempt solo, especially after rain. A lot of the offshoots aren’t actually “trails” so you’d be truly off-roading in deep red mud. Otherwise this trail is nice & quiet, even stopped a couple times and got some great shots of my Jeep.

Road in good shape. Highlight was the shallow water crossing. Low point: all the beer cans at the party spot at the water crossing.
