Trail Overview
This trail, like many others in Francis Marion National Forest, traverses the upland hardwood forest, a haven for wildlife. It begins at one of the Palmetto Trail intersections and runs parallel to it for most of the journey. The road is flat, with occasional muddy puddles, but there are no significant obstacles. Regrettably, Francis Marion National Forest has been plagued by trash in recent years. Let's contribute to the preservation of this natural beauty by practicing Leave No Trace principles and packing out any extra trash we encounter along the way. This trail is one of the most scenic and best to experience what the national forest has to offer.
History
The Francis Marion National Forest, situated north of Charleston, South Carolina, bears the name of the Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion, who was dubbed the Swamp Fox by the British. It is nestled within the Middle Atlantic coastal forest ecoregion and is characterized by a subtropical coniferous forest.
