Trail Overview

A fun spur trail off of Tin Shanty Road, Tin Shanty Spur is a seasonal access road generally open from early October to early February (check PA DCNR website for dates). This is an out-and-back adventure, and is worthy of exploration while back in this area. Expect the road to be rutted and muddy, and unmaintained, especially in snow. The trail ends at a large grassy clearing with a gas well. There are a number of short spurs to other gas wells.

Difficulty

This spur is an unmaintained road in Sproul State Forest that is primarily rocky dirt. Expect snow in winter, ruts, mud, and puddles in wet seasons. The road's purpose is gas well and hunting access, so it is minimally maintained by the gas companies and whoever needs to use it.
