Trail Overview
Rock Run Road is a fun, scenic Pennsylvania state forest road. It is easy to travel and features more elevation change than a lot of the forest road network in this part of the forest, as it rises up from some of the hollows to the plateau above many of them. It's mostly in Sproul State Forest, but crosses into Elk State Forest at the north end. During the winter, it is also a joint-use snowmobile trail, so be aware of that when snow is on the ground. The road network in this part of the forest is very scenic, with lots of opportunities to pull off and picnic or relax. As with a lot of Sproul State Forest, this is a remote area with spotty cell service and limited opportunities to provision. The closest gas, food, etc., is in Renovo. Plan accordingly. The road offers access to several hiking trails.
Difficulty
Well-maintained gravel state forest road. Any street-legal vehicle should be able to access it during spring, summer, or fall.
