Trail Overview
This forest road in the southwest corner of Michaux State Forest is notable for the Valley View Vista that offers a good view towards the town of Mont Alto to the west. It runs north/south between Quincy Mountain to the south and the area on the western slope of Oak Knob to the north. It's generally pretty well maintained, and the vista is a worthwhile stop while in the southern part of the forest. This is a good way into or out of the southern part of the forest if coming from or heading to the west. Where the pipeline crosses south of the vista offers a bit of a view to the west as well.
History
Oak forests are historically significant in Michaux, given the forest's namesake, André Michaux, and his son, who were botanists with a special interest in oaks. While Oak Road itself is not uniquely highlighted for historic events, its name pays homage to the legacy of oak planting and forestry management in the area dating back to the 19th century. The broader forest has connections to historic oak groves planted in honor of the Michaux family, though the most famous of these is in Philadelphia rather than within Michaux State Forest itself.
