Trail Overview
Runs north/south along the ridge of the Tussey Mountain. It passes through part of the Martin Hill Wild Area and along the border of the Sweet Root Natural Area. The north end is notable for a large, beautiful stone planter with wild flowers growing in it. It has one very nice vista looking into the Sweet Root Natural Area to the North. This trail also provides access to Tower Road which is an ATV trailhead for some of the trail system in this forest tract. Tower Road ends at a gate for full size vehicles, but seasonally that gate is open for full size vehicles to have another way to access Blankley Road.
History
Martin Hill Road is recognized for its scenic roadside overlooks within Buchanan State Forest. It traverses lands added through various state and conservation efforts, including acquisitions along the Evitts Mountain ridgeline. Martin Hill’s forested landscape traces back to the state’s purchases of marginal land for conservation and public use in the early 20th century, evolving into sites accessed by hikers, hunters, and birders.
