Trail Overview

Longwell Draft Road is a very straight but pleasant drivable trail in Bald Eagle State Forest. From end to end, there is approximately 850 feet of elevation change and it is gradual along the entire length. The road is comprised of mostly dirt with the occasional rocks and frequent mud puddles. Longwell Draft Road parallels Weikert Run along its entire length, giving you plenty of opportunities to see the stream and the nature that surrounds it.

Difficulty

Frequent water holes with solid bottoms will be encountered. The depth of the water varies through the year and is frequently up to 12 inches deep after a rain.

I would absolutely not take any vehicle other than a jeep on this trail. The first three miles from Weikert direction is very easy riding and smooth. After the last camp at around 3 miles the road turns to crap. 99% of the road is washed out all that remains is tall jagged rocks that will force you to drive no faster than 5 mph. I do realize I was in a 250 with heavy duty suspension but no car other than a jeep with very loose suspension should be on this road. I was so furious but there was nowhere for me to turn around. I was stuck crawling along this road bouncing alomost off my seat. I will not be taking this road again, I will go around lol.

1st half was well graded dirt, 2nd half was rocky. Some small mud puddles. Airing down would be best on this trail for comfort.

longwell draft is very similar to strongs mountain that connects to it. lots of rocks 12" or less make up most of the trail with a few shallow water holes along the way. high clearance is recommended.
