Trail Overview
Coal Flat - FS 140 starts off flat, packed dirt surface. There is a narrow, rough road sign. There are a few large rocks on the surface of this trail, but they do not protrude out of the surface that far. Getting over them is no problem. It looks like there is some active timber harvesting going on, so do not touch the logs, as they are under contract. 1.2 miles in is a spur off to the right, Coal Flat - FS 140B. 1.7 miles in, there is a tree overhanging the trail. 1.8 miles in is another spur off to the left, Coal Flat - FSR 140A. 2.3 miles in is the end of the trail. There is a nice open spot possible for camping. Accessibility: Like many forest roads, its condition can vary, and it is best to check the Allegheny National Forest Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) for the latest information on its status. Conditions are also subject to weather and seasonal changes. https://www.fs.usda.gov/r09/allegheny
