Trail Overview

This is an easy gravel trail that winds through the heart of the Allegheny National Forest. The trail is full of tight switchbacks as you wind your way up and over the rolling hills. You will see plenty of oil wells. There is a very narrow bridge that you have to cross about a quarter mile down the trail from State Route 321.

Difficulty

There are some short climbs, but mostly it is a 3 due to the narrow bridge.

lots of hunters on the sides. narrow in spots. Plenty of washboarding on downhills. bring a chainsaw, trees down occasionally. we cleared two. not challenging or technical, just a bit rutted with some deeper puddles.

The Eastern side of the trail is open but road 279 has a locked gate, and it looks like someone tried to shoot it open. It’s marked snow mobiles only, so it may open at some point in the Winter.

Trail starts off easy but has a few switch back turns combined with hill climbs on loose rocks. If it wasn’t dry this would be much more technical. Probably should be rated a 4-5 vs a 2-3. Narrow and potential for pinstripes too

The entrance is marked wrong. It does not start at 279 as mentioned. That entrance through the narrow bridge is only permissible by snowmobile. You should enter the trail 122 off 321 instead. The end of the trail near Westline will get you high-centered. The end of the trail doesn't seem to be managed at all.

We took this from the Kinmeade trail. Bridge over creek(which was at the very end for us) is very narrow and decking is rotting out. Given we had some larger 4x4 vehicles we turned around
