Trail Overview
Bell Furnace Road is an up-and-back, dirt road within the Tuscararo State Forest. It is a splitter road off of the main road, Licking Creek Road, which is the main road with many spur roads and pull-through campsites. There is a hiking trail at the end of this road that leads to Black Log Mountain Road. There is plenty of vegetation with some ferns noted along the sides of the road, and plenty of nutrition for wildlife with Oak trees and smaller pines. The road parallels a fast-running stream, and there are three medium parking areas and one larger parking area at the end of this trail. This short trail ends with several flat ground areas for Trout Fishing. The trout in this stream is stocked, and the landowner allows public fishing of the trout stream, except for the third Monday in February until the opening day of regular trout season in April. The large Parking area can easily accommodate 3-4 vehicles and has a bridge to cross the stream and a hiking trail on the other side.
History
It is a 1.3-mile scenic route; the mileage includes the hiking trail at the end of the road. Today, the road is an unpaved dirt road and is used for hiking, Biking, and horseback riding. Off-road enthusiasts frequent the wider Tuscararo State Forest road Network.
