Trail Overview
This section of BLM Road 6366-0-00 heads south from US Highway 95 to the Owyhee Canyon Overlook. The road is a reasonably well-graded gravel road with one seasonal creek crossing. While the road is easily traveled without dropping tire pressure, there would be some advantage to lowering tire pressures to even out the numerous washboard sections. The creek crossing will likely be at least one foot deep with water in early May and completely dry later in the summer. The destination provides excellent views of the Owyhee River Wild and Scenic area, as well as views towards the Steens, some 60 miles distant. The terrain is typical Oregon sagebrush desert with wide open vistas and few, if any, trees. Sightings of Pronghorn are possible. While not an official camping site, one can spend the night at the Overlook and be treated to the dark skies of the Oregon Desert. The route may be accessible in the winter, but with significant risks due to snow.
