Trail Overview

Trail 99 winds through low alpine terrain with tight curves among juniper trees and features numerous embedded rocks and ledge obstacles, making it an intermediate route. The trail has more elevation gain in the middle of the route, compared to surrounding trails, with small climbs and descents often accompanied by rocky sections. Riders must carefully navigate jagged embedded rocks and boulders lining the path. About halfway through, the trail crosses the paved Buckhorn Road. Scenic rock outcroppings on the hilltops add to the trail's views.

Great trail with awesome views of Mount Jefferson & Black Butte. Easier when going from West to East. The climb from Buckhorn Road to the top of the western butte is relatively rocky as shown in pictures, and has some obstacles that could take a few tries to be successful. The entire east side of the trail from Buckhorn Road to Trail 71 is more sand than rocks, and is not difficult at all.
