Sumac trail

Sumac Trail is a scenic, beginner-friendly off-road route within the Lake Murray State Park ATV Area, perfect for riders of all skill levels looking for a relaxed trip with beautiful shoreline views. Stretching approximately 1.9 miles, this dirt and sand trail is the main artery of the park's off-road system, allowing riders to easily access all other loops and trails. The route features a very gentle grade with a technical rating of 2, seeing elevation changes of only about 80 feet as it ranges from 751 to 830 feet above sea level. While the path is relatively smooth and highly approachable for ATVs, dirt bikes, and SxSs, offroaders should be prepared for deep rolling whoops in several sections and occasional mud holes that can form after rain. The trail begins at the staging area just south of US Highway 70 and heads south through a mix of hardwood trees, ultimately ending at a scenic overlook along the edge of Lake Murray. To prevent resource damage, clear bypasses are available for each of the mud holes along the way, ensuring that less-equipped vehicles can navigate the route safely. Standard passenger vehicles and full-size four-wheel-drive trucks or SUVs are not permitted on this trail, as it is dedicated exclusively to off-highway vehicles. Offroaders visiting the park will need to purchase an Oklahoma State Parks parking permit for their tow vehicles at the staging area, and all riding must take place during daylight hours.
