Trail Overview

Long Point is an easy, scenic coastal corridor in North Carolina's Croatan National Forest, perfect for beginners, families, and outdoor enthusiasts looking for direct access to the scenic White Oak River. Stretching approximately 2.3 miles through flat coastal woodlands, this wide, well-maintained dirt road sits nearly at sea level with minimal elevation change. While the route is highly accessible and easily completed in two-wheel-drive vehicles, drivers of high-clearance rigs, four-wheel-drive vehicles, and SxSs should still remain alert for deep, sudden potholes that develop along the flat surface, especially when traveling at higher speeds. The route offers an effortless cruise under a canopy of dense coastal pine and hardwood forest, making it a highly reliable year-round option for all experience levels. The trail culminates at the scenic Long Point campsite directly along the banks of the White Oak River, a fantastic spot for tent camping or small Class B and C camper vans. Visitors will find convenient amenities here, including a pit toilet, fire rings, picnic tables, and an ideal launch point for kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards. Due to space and turning radius limitations, the campsite is not recommended for larger trailers or expansive RV setups. If you are looking to launch larger trailered motorized boats, Haywood Landing is located just a short drive to the north and provides a fully dedicated boat ramp with excellent river access.
