Trail Overview

Cape Hatteras has many access points you can drive on the beach. Ramp 2 to 4 is just south of the town of Nag Head. 4x4 is required to be able to drive on the beach as well as airing down your tires to 20 psi or less. Recovery equipment is also required along with an ORV permit. The permits are sold in annual, or 10-day passes. Be mindful of tides when traveling on the beach and make sure to keep steady momentum while driving. Equipment required: Low-pressure tire gauge, shovel, jack, and jack support, 20 psi or less in tires, fire extinguisher, trash bag, flashlight, tow straps, and recovery boards.

Good sand and good ruts, the only technical portion of my drive was exiting VIA Ramp 2, there are deep ruts uphill, it requires a bit more momentum than usual to not get stuck.

Plz stop trying to take awd or 2wd vehicles out. Any 4x4 will be fine, if it’s soft just air down.
