Trail Overview

Brown Mountain Road (Forest Service Road 299) serves as the primary access route to the Brown Mountain OHV Trail System in Pisgah National Forest. This Forest Service road extends approximately 1.25 miles from Brown Mountain Beach Road (SR 1405) to the main OHV trailhead, providing access to parking, staging areas, restrooms, and picnic facilities. The road is generally well-maintained and suitable for most passenger vehicles under normal weather conditions. Various campsites are mainly located on the left side of the trail, accommodating restrooms, picnic tables, and spacious parking. One section of the trail may become impassable due to flash flooding during heavy rainfall. Permits are needed for the trail system that leads from the parking area.
