Trail Overview

The northern end of the old Ogdensburg Railroad line takes you to the small town of Glenfield, New York. This scenic route takes you through the countryside alongside the Black River. Stop in for a bite at the Wicked Bad Apple Backwoods Bar & Grill by turning right on Blue Street and going about 300 yards. You must have a Lewis Country trail permit to use this trail. Respect the landowners along this route and stay on the trail.

Difficulty

This is an old railroad line that is for the most part straight and level. It can be muddy during wet weather and very dusty otherwise. Always ride with headlights on for safety.

History

This route follows the northern portion of the old Ogdensburg railroad line from the Burdick's crossing intersection. The trail is named after the Monteola Hardwood Company which operated in the town of Glenfield where this trail ends. In 1918, Glenfield and the Monteola Hardwood Company were known to have one of the largest sawmills in existence in New York State.
