Trail Overview

The route is through Morgan Hill State Forest on seasonal roads. The road is gravel, single-lane, and well-maintained. There are multiple scenic views toward Labrador Hollow and numerous side roads and hiking trails. The main road is safe for any vehicle, while an SUV is recommended for the side trails. Spruce Pond has an outdoor restroom open in the summer, camping sites, and a kids-friendly fishing site.

Difficulty

The main road is gravel covered and well maintained from Spring to Fall. Side roads can be more challenging and should only be accessed by SUVs or 4WD capable vehicles.

History

Morgan Hill State Forest was originally used by the Iroquois for hunting. Later the land was cleared for farming by Revolutionary War Veterans and early European settlers. The area's soils, however, are thin, relatively steep and acidic, and the growing seasons are short with long, harsh winters. This combination of factors resulted in land that was mostly unproductive and that would eventually be abandoned in pursuit of more productive lands in the Midwest.

Very chill and mellow trail, decided to go on the service trail for the power lines/telephone poles instead of just riding the fire road. Took the power line over to Eaton hill road where there was a bunch of hills and some section it got really technical. Definitely worth checking out the power lines if want more gnarly stuff, one section I had to use my lockers and 4 low on a section I don’t think I would of been able to get out without them. Aside from the little section everything would have been able to be done in a 4x4 vehicle.
