Trail Overview
Swingle Canyon can be run from either the west off Slash Draw/FS63 or from the east off Highway 60. Coming from the east expect some loose, rocky ascents with some obstacles being close to 12" in size and becoming easier and more dirt as you move further east. Starting from the west end you will encounter decently maintained roads for a short while before encountering the east end of the track with its larger loose rocks and heavy rutting. Much of the trail towards the east end and middle of the track is showing signs of erosion and rutting with little signs of maintenance. Some areas are heavily rutted and camber with several sections being very narrow due to erosion, trees, and low-lying washes. The trail is primarily single-vehicle wide with little to no room to pass in certain areas. The trail will be easily completed by most high-clearance AWD and 4WD vehicles. Cell service is very weak through the middle section of the trail and becomes stronger towards the ends. Dispersed camping is permitted in a couple of small areas along this trail, which isn't common for Cibola National Forest, and these areas do have some designated primitive campsites.
Difficulty
Expect to encounter off-camber sections, deep rutting, and some areas of erosion. There are a couple of areas with short steeper grades, large loose rocks, and some small rock gardens. There are also some low-lying areas that have the potential to be shallow water crossings after rain or snow melts.
