Trail Overview

Poker Chip is a 4.5-mile single track on the east side of the Manzanita Mountain Trail System. The north end connects to Bear Scat, while the south end starts on Mahogany. Going south to north, it starts out as a rocky trail with meandering tight curves, lots of embedded chunky rock, and small ledges in the trail. After the intersection with Meadow, there is a big rock ledge obstacle of 5 difficulty. It continues as a very windy and rocky trail with extremely tight turns underneath low tree branches. It's a bit harder to see the trail here because the rocky surface blends in with the terrain. It has huge chunks and blocks of jarring rocks on the surface that make for a very bumpy ride. There are a couple more moderate rock ledges going downhill before the intersection with Bear Scat.

Road Pine Flats to Bear Scat then back to Southern Crossing to top of Three Bottles and back to parking lot. Trails, weather and people on trail were terrific, except for the howling out of control hound dog. Thought it was going to pull the little girl down the trail to get me. Trails had slick spots, but that just adds character. See you tomorrow.
