Trail Overview
House Mountain Road is a provide-all trail that begins on a rutted dirt surface, just over single vehicle width, and narrows as it continues to its abundant features. Lined with trees for the majority of the trail, visitors will get to traverse several water crossings and encounter rocks and obstacles up to 10 inches in size. There is some additional rutting later on in the trail where the surface is primarily dirt and several small sandy washes that are mostly dry, but they do have the potential to be shallow water crossings after rain or snowmelt. There is an area that opens to a decent-sized meadow with a larger rock formation to explore. While there is no dispersed camping permitted on this trail, visitors can enjoy the trail and its many features for a day, or camp just to the south on Adobe Ranch Road/FSR-521. There is no cell service in the area, but most high-clearance AWD and 4WD vehicles will be able to traverse Adobe Ranch Road as well as House Mountain Road. Several motorized spurs off the main trail provide more exploring opportunities.
