Trail Overview

This route leaves Largo Canyon and is slightly rutted before climbing up to Gould Pass. The steep route is on the north side of the mesa. It is heavily rutted with a drastic dropoff. After Gould Pass, the route levels out and is relatively easy to the small parking area for Gould Pass Pueblito. A short hike on the south side of the road leads to the picturesque pueblito. This pueblito, or small pueblo, was built around 1750 by the Navajos. It is located on a sandstone outcrop at the southeastern edge of Encinada Mesa which separates Largo and Carrizo Canyons. This 2-room pueblo has two loopholes and holes to look through, with Adolfo Canyon and Gomez Canyon pueblitos visible in the distance.
