Trail Overview

Coyote Hills is one of the area’s longer, more iconic hard trails, packed with a variety of obstacles that keep drivers engaged from start to finish. True to its name, the trail features multiple large “waterfall” ledges scattered along the climb, each offering its own unique challenge. The trail wastes no time, beginning with a tight gatekeeper squeezed through a narrow entry that immediately puts you at the base of a daunting 6-foot stepped ledge. From there, the route winds up the hillside, delivering a steady mix of waterfall climbs, smaller boulder gardens, and technical sections that demand careful line choice. The crux of the trail comes near the top: a large, slanted rock slab that’s notoriously slick and difficult to climb. It’s a true test of traction, balance, and commitment. For those wanting an extra challenge, an optional off-camber escape line climbs where two tilted rock faces converge, requiring you to carefully balance and straddle both sides. The final waterfall obstacle will be just at the top before the trail exits, and is also optional. Coyote Hills delivers a full day of technical wheeling, combining sustained difficulty with memorable features that make it a must-run for experienced offroaders.

Difficulty

Coyote Hills lands more likely around an 8.5 with its sustained technical obstacles, and the combination of large waterfall ledges, tight lines, and the slick slanted slab climb demands strong driving skills, careful tire placement, and a capable rig. Optional lines add even more exposure and off-camber risk, making this a serious trail best suited for experienced drivers.
