Trail Overview
Chupaderos South Trail 822, also known as Around the Mountain, is an engaging 1.8-mile single-track trail designed primarily for dirt bikes, offering scenic views and light technical challenges as it winds through a picturesque mountain landscape. Starting just off Maria's Canyon Road, the trail's entrance is marked by a burnt stump and a downed tree, leading onto a path that initially presents an easy cruise with minimal obstacles. As the route progresses, riders will experience a modest elevation gain up to a peak elevation of 7,449 feet, providing an excellent vantage point of the surrounding valley around the halfway mark.
The second half of the trail ramps up the excitement with tighter maneuvers, weaving around downed timber, navigating loose rock sections, and climbing brief but steep grades. Rated as a moderate level 4, this route is approachable for intermediate riders seeking a fun, flowing single track that is too narrow for SxSs or four-wheel-drive vehicles and can be run in either direction. The trail eventually descends back down to 7,201 feet, concluding near a large watering hole where riders can regroup before heading onto adjacent trails.
