Trail Overview
This area of New Mexico doesn't provide much regarding scenic off-roading or overlanding, but The Caprock is an exception. The edge of the Llano Estacado mesa provides a welcoming view over the flatlands and dairy farms. The route is primarily a well-maintained county road that descends into the caprock then climbs back up at approximately a 10% grade. As long as there is no rain or snow, most 2WDs will be fine. Just be aware that this road is surrounded by open-range ranch land; watch out for livestock and stay on the road. Don't attempt any of the off-shoot trails as those are immediately onto private lands. There are no displaced camping sites.
