Trail Overview

Angel's Edge offers a mix of breathtaking scenery and a few decent technical challenges. The trail begins with a flat and easy stretch across the canyon floor that rapidly gives way to a sharp ascent along the top of a narrow hogback to a wider shelf road that leads to the top of the canyon's edge. The trail meanders along the canyon's lip, showcasing some stunning views of Angel Peak and beyond while offering some stretches of challenging terrain. Erosion from seasonal water flow running over the edge of the cliff's side has carved deep washouts, exposing sections of sandstone and creating occasional ledges that require some route plotting and a high-clearance vehicle. The trail eventually turns northeast, descending toward RD 4960. The difficulty of the trail will increase greatly after storms. The roadbed varies in composition, ranging from gravel and heavily rutted and washed-out clay to dirt and sandstone, with sections of heavy erosion creating additional obstacles.
