Trail Overview

Just under a mile long, this short and easy ATV trail descends off of North Star Road on a semi-rocky path, overgrown with grass. It's mostly a gradual two-track, with a few steeper spots that are covered in softball-sized rocks that make it more interesting. It rides through grassy fields of juniper trees in the beginning, but drops down a couple of hundred feet in elevation to a forest of ponderosa pines, and crosses a couple of small rocky ravines that are very minor. There are several downed logs that have been cut, but there is always potential for new log hazards. The legal trail per the MVUM dead ends after 0.9 miles, but it looks like a more primitive route continues.

Difficulty

This is an easier trail as it has no major obstacles, but it does have minor rocky sections, a semi-steep hill, and a couple of easy ravine crossings. It is still very approachable for newer or younger riders exploring this area.

Access Description

There are several easy and moderate ATV trails in this part of the Gila National Forest, accessible between the North Star Road and the Mimbres River Trail. North Star Road is not advised for trailers over 20 feet long, and high clearance is advised. An ideal place to stage is at the horse pasture at the entrance of FS Road 4206B, and access the trails starting on Trail #974. This is a dirt area to park or dispersed camp with space for a few vehicles or small trailers.
