Trail Overview

This route starts out on Talcott Road and follows down to Old Stage Road in Bridgewater, NH. Both roads are Class 6 unmaintained roads. The entire route is a gradual descent, with some steep hills along the way. The route starts off with the million-dollar view from the trail's high point, overlooking Newfound Lake. Follow Talcott Road for about 1.2 mi., then turn right onto Old Stage Road. (Note of caution - you can continue straight on Talcott, but we tried to access Talcott from the eastern side of the road and it was blocked off with large boulders, so at some point you will likely have to turn back.) Old Stage Road is a nice winding and rambling 2.5-mile descent. This route is fairly easy, with the most difficult features being the numerous muddy sections. Four-wheel drive is required, but the trail is otherwise stock-friendly. You will see wonderful views to the south over Newfound Lake at the beginning of this route, and will enjoy sweeping eastern views on the Old Stage Road portion of this route. There is cell service for nearly all of this route (Verizon).

Difficulty

Although this trail meanders through the forest, there are many small hills with fairly steep pitches where 4-low is useful. The most difficult portions of this route are the numerous muddy sections.

Really fun trail with just enough rocks and gullies to keep it interesting. It was dry when we went but I imagine it's a little more challenging when muddy. nothing our 35" tires couldn't handle with ease.

The trail was dry, clear, and fairly easy. It was a great fun drive that took us about an hour end to end. There was one area that I show in a picture where a tree will likely fall and block the trail at some point. There were many other instances of trees that had been cut and removed from the trail, so plan accordingly.

I did this trail with a stock Toyota forerunner with 265 for tires. I did utilize my front skid plate. Be careful of the boulder in the mud area although all the trail was completely dry. It was a fun trail.
